Global confectionery and food giant Mars hosted a grand ribbon cutting ceremony today at its Hackettstown location, unveiling of an extensive investment exceeding $70 million. This investment heralds the opening of a state-of-the-art Research and Development Innovation Studio, alongside substantial manufacturing advancements and heightened food safety protocols at the factory.

This latest venture builds on the company's storied 80-year legacy in New Jersey, dating back to its initial establishment in Newark.

The newly inaugurated R&D Innovation Studio is poised to become a hub of creativity and technological advancement for Mars. Designed to expedite the pace of innovation, the studio features a modern prototyping kitchen, collaborative spaces for creative synergy, and a cutting-edge packaging lab. These facilities are expected to bolster the development of Mars' iconic brands, such as M&M’S, Twix, Skittles, and Extra, introducing new flavors, formats, and sustainable packaging solutions to the market at an accelerated rate.

A highlight of the studio is its state-of-the-art packaging lab, which focuses on the development and testing of sustainable packaging materials. This initiative aligns with the company's ongoing efforts to contribute towards a circular economy.

Hackettstown Mayor Jerry DiMaio lauded Mars for its substantial investment and its continued faith in Hackettstown as a key location for innovation and manufacturing excellence. "Mars' investment not only underscores the company's commitment to innovation and sustainability but also signifies a boon for our local economy, promising new jobs and economic activity," stated DiMaio during the ceremony.
