Tonight the Vernon Township Board of Education is set to approve a preliminary budget for the 2019-20 school year. The district is facing a $10 million reduction in state aid over the next six years under Governor Phil Murphy's realignment of school funding.

According to the Advertiser News North, the budget will require a tax levy of $42.26 million and they plan to use about $2.6 million in capped bank. VTSD will reportedly reduce staff for the upcoming school year with 18 retirements that will not be replaced and 10 "non-renewals." Existing faculty will be transferred to cover the positions left open by retirements.

The Board of Education meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Lounsberry Hollow Middle School.
