Sussex County Reports No New COVID-19 Cases & 1 Death Today May 21st

The Sussex County Department of Health and Human Services identified no new COVID-19 cases and 1 death today Thursday, May 21st bringing the county total to 1,074 cases with at least 141 deaths. They also noted that 869 of the total cases are considered recovered.

The total number of cases and deaths in each municipality is as follows:

  • Andover Borough: 2 cases
  • Andover Township: 200 cases and 82 deaths
  • Branchville Borough: 4 cases
  • Byram Township: 47 cases and 1 death
  • Frankford Township: 76 cases and 19 deaths
  • Franklin Borough: 42 cases and 2 deaths
  • Fredon Township: 17 cases
  • Green Township: 12 cases and 1 death
  • Hamburg Borough: 27 cases
  • Hampton Township: 28 cases and 2 deaths
  • Hardyston Township: 50 cases
  • Hopatcong Borough: 110 cases and 5 deaths
  • Lafayette Township: 9 cases
  • Montague Township: 22 cases and 2 deaths
  • Newton Town: 93 cases and 11 deaths
  • Ogdensburg Borough: 15 cases
  • Sandyston Township: 6 cases and 1 death
  • Sparta Township: 103 cases and 7 deaths
  • Stanhope Borough: 20 cases and 1 death
  • Stillwater Township: 10 cases
  • Sussex Borough: 8 cases
  • Vernon Township: 122 cases and 6 deaths
  • Wantage Township: 51 cases and 1 deaths

Andover Township Police previously stated that while the town's statistics "appear to be alarming...a large portion of these numbers are within a long term care facility."

The SCDOH is currently working to identify individuals who came into contact with these residents. Anyone identified as a close contact, per New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) guidelines, is directed to self-quarantine and is being monitored by the SCDOH.

Also, Disaster Response Crisis Counselors (DRCCs) are now available to speak to Sussex County residents who may be experiencing emotional or mental difficulties related to COVID-19. DRCCs are trained to provide disaster mental health services, including psychological first aid and crisis counseling.

A Disaster Response Crisis Counselor can be reached through the Sussex County Division of Health COVID-19 Hotline at 973-579-9488. SCDOH staff and Sussex County Medical Reserve Corps volunteers are also available to answer other questions related to COVID-19. The Hotline’s hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
