Man Sentenced for Lake Hopatcong Boating Accident That Killed His Friend

A Morris County man has been sentenced for a Lake Hopatcong boating incident that killed his friend last year. According to the Sussex Daily Voice, Nicholas Zaratonello was sentenced to 364 days in the Morris County Jail, 200 hours of community service and three years probation. He is also barred from operating a boat for one year and suspended from driving for three months.

The 25-year-old admitted to operating a pontoon boat while under the influence of alcohol on August 3, 2019. During the outing one of Zaratonello's two passengers, Jason Gil, fell overboard and drowned. The 24-year-old's body was recovered two days later.
